Kyjov - Kyjov Hospital is preparing for the most complicated reconstruction in recent years. It concerns the building of the central operating rooms and other departments, which according to director Josef Pejchl is the heart of the hospital and without which the facility cannot operate. The building is only ten years old, but the company built it using such unsuitable technology that the walls are cracking and the structure is unstable. The hospital is now awaiting the signing of a contract with the company Metrostav, which is to ensure the repairs at its own expense, said hospital spokesman Tomáš Zdechovský today. The hospital has already prepared spaces for temporary operating rooms due to the relocation. They will operate in places from where they were moved ten years ago. "Hygiene approaches this as if they are new rooms, so the air conditioning, grounding, insulation, all of that must be in accordance with the regulations," Pejchl noted. The reconstruction of the central operating rooms should start on July 20 and last about three months. However, during this time, the first departments should start moving back into the renovated parts of the building. "August and September will be the most difficult," Zdechovský stated. The building of the central operating rooms was approved in 2000. It cost 136 million crowns, and the hospital invested another 100 million crowns in internal equipment. Medical staff noticed the first cracks on the interior walls in 2005. The seriousness of the situation became apparent last year, according to Pejchl, when the previous management of the hospital had a static assessment made. This was followed by another assessment, this time from the former construction contractor. "They came and announced that it was necessary to reconstruct as soon as possible, the building is in serious condition," the director stated. The hospital expected that the new building would be the one from the extensive complex that would need any new construction work the latest. For example, servers were moved into the basement. Now, everything must be moved out. Pejchl added that in a year the hospital will likely be in a similar situation. Problems with the structure are reportedly beginning to appear in the rehabilitation building, which is adjacent to the central operating rooms. The hospital is having a static assessment done.
