Nový Jičín - The town of Nový Jičín will spend approximately three million crowns to rebuild the area in front of Žerotín Castle. Its current form does not meet technical standards or aesthetic requirements. A new circular square with a fountain, a stone wall, sidewalks, and a central staircase leading to the castle courtyard will be created. This was announced today by the spokesperson for the Nový Jičín town hall, Marie Machková. "The current appearance of the entire area is a reflection of the time of its creation, namely the 70s and 80s of the last century. The materials used are completely inappropriate and do not correspond with the surrounding historical architecture. The technical condition of the pavement, water areas, and furniture is poor," said Michal Hub from the Nový Jičín property and investment department.
The entrance to the castle will be entirely new. "The unsightly pool will be replaced by a circular fountain, around which two semicircular sidewalks will run. These will be supplemented with benches. The main staircase will be newly made of stone, as will the supporting wall at the sidewalks. The area around the fountain will feature stone paving," described Machková. The renovations will also include the addition of greenery and lighting.
Nový Jičín councilman Pavel Bártek (Green Party) stated that the project was supposed to take place last year and was intended to follow the renovation of the park in front of the castle, which belongs to the region. However, the region postponed the renovation of the area. "The town will now announce a tender for the construction contractor, and if no complications arise, the work should be completed by autumn. The costs are expected to be around three million crowns," Bártek added.
