Mladá Boleslav - Whether the long-awaited covered swimming pool in Mladá Boleslav will eventually look like the residents of Boleslav wish is likely to be decided by them through ballot papers. Some time ago, the city presented a plan to build a unique structure that would be used, if necessary, to cover the outdoor pool on Jičínská street. However, the public has come up with several ideas and suggestions on how this investment could be resolved differently, and therefore the city will proceed with a survey, said Mayor Raduan Nwelati to ČTK.

Some people even expressed the opinion that it would be better to wait a year or two for the project until there is more money available. "It is clear how sensitive this issue is for the residents of Boleslav after years of waiting. For myself, I can say that I would rather wait two more years until the finances are at the necessary level than look at an unwanted project for decades," wrote a user signing as Milan Adamec in a discussion on the city's website.
This opinion is not unique. Therefore, the city will hold a survey in January, which could be determining for the final form of the swimming pool if there is sufficient participation. "We will respect the public's opinion only if a large number of residents participate in the survey," the mayor pointed out. Approximately 45,000 people currently live in Boleslav.
From the ballot papers, people will learn what construction options can be realized, what it will mean for the city in terms of operation, and what it will mean for visitors. The survey will likely propose the previously presented option, as well as an option supplemented by a swimming pool or the possibility of waiting some time until the city has enough funds, and then creating a new proposal.
The originally planned covered pool was supposed to start operating after the end of next summer season. The area is meant to cover 4,700 square meters, and the estimated costs are around 150 million crowns.
