Olomouc - Two candidates are interested in the position of the new director of the Museum of Art in Olomouc, one of the most significant institutions of its kind in the country. The decisive week for them will be next week when the second round of the selection process takes place. The new museum director will then be appointed by the Minister of Culture. The current director, Pavel Zatloukal, will leave his position at the end of March as he is retiring. He will depart after 23 years and symbolically on the day when one of the museum's most significant exhibition projects, From Titian to Warhol, concludes.

Applicants for the position of director of the Museum of Art in Olomouc could apply until the end of January. According to Jan Vondryska from the Ministry of Culture, two people applied, both of whom advanced to the second round, which will take place on Tuesday. "Personal interviews will be conducted with these candidates, and the commission will ultimately recommend a specific candidate to the minister," Vondryska told ČTK today. They will be evaluated not only by representatives of the ministry but also by the Olomouc region, representatives of the Association of Museums and Galleries, and from the Olomouc Archbishopric.
The names or professions of the candidates were not disclosed by the ministry representatives, but it can be assumed that they are from outside Olomouc as well. The current director, Zatloukal, does not know the applicants either. "I only know that the second round will take place on Tuesday, nothing else," he said to ČTK today. He will be in office for the last month. "I plan to handle regular matters; I have many people and visits awaiting me, and our exhibition project is concluding. The month will be busy," Zatloukal added, who has led the Museum of Art since 1990.
The Museum of Art in Olomouc manages around 200,000 collection items, ranking just after the National Gallery in Prague in terms of quantity. Through short-term and medium-term exhibitions as well as long-term displays, it presents visual culture from ancient times to the present day in three locations - the Archdiocesan Museum of Olomouc, the Archdiocesan Museum of Kroměříž, and the Museum of Modern Art Olomouc.
It is currently showcasing the project From Titian to Warhol, which simultaneously celebrates 60 years of operation. The exhibition presents works by Titian, van Dyck, Myslbek, Filla, Toyen, and other authors. The museum displays 590 exhibits from its own collections as well as from collectors. According to Zatloukal, it is a retrospective exhibition that maps the work of museum representatives over the past decade. It ends on March 31 of the following year.
