Prague - After the completion of the renovation, the city company Obecní dům will take care of the Prague Šlechtova restaurant, which will find an operator for the restaurant. CTK was informed about this by Jan Wolf (KDU-ČSL), chairman of the municipal council for culture. The renovation is set to finish this year, and the restaurant could then open to the public in the spring of next year. The Šlechtova restaurant has been waiting for repairs for decades, during which it has deteriorated.

"The construction work on the Šlechtova restaurant should be completed by December 31 of this year. At that time, it is necessary to select a tenant and operator,” said Wolf.

The city leadership will therefore decide in the coming weeks to transfer the Šlechtova restaurant to the company Obecní dům. "It is a joint-stock company that has experience with restaurant operations. It will be the one to look for the most suitable operator,” said Wolf. The equipment for the backstage and kitchen will need to be purchased. "The expected opening of the gastro facility is therefore estimated for April to May 2019,” he added.

In addition to the restaurant, lectures, exhibitions, and other cultural events should be organized for visitors in the building. The Prague 7 town hall will hold weddings or welcoming ceremonies for newborns here.

The renovation of the monument began in June 2016. Thus, after 40 years of waiting, the building has received a plan for complete renovation of both the interior and exterior spaces; builders will add a technical wing, and the aforementioned restaurant will be restored. The repair was originally expected to cost a quarter of a billion crowns. However, the original costly project was tasked to the architect to simplify it. As a result, there are fewer staircases, elevators, and sanitary facilities. The current costs are estimated to be just over 120 million.

The Šlechtova restaurant, previously known as the Royal Hall, is a cultural monument. It bears the name of its last owner, Václav Šlecht. Its oldest part dates back to the end of the 17th century, and the building was completed in the mid-19th century.
