Olomouc - About seventy guests came yesterday to the conference room of the city hall building on Hynaisova Street in Olomouc to discuss with representatives of the Olomouc city council the newly prepared urban plan for the city of Olomouc. The discussion panel with experts was organized by the Department of Concept and Development led by Olomouc Mayor Martin Novotný.

At the beginning of the approximately two-hour debate, the staff of the Department of Concept and Development informed the participants about the text of the assignment for the urban plan. Then the discussion became lively. The most frequently mentioned topic in the comments was transportation, including both automobile - city bypasses (the so-called eastern and western tangents), the development of public transport, and also, for example, the future of the Neředín airport. Discussions also included industrial areas and urban solutions for specific locations, such as the Šantovka area. The topic of agricultural land protection and green spaces in the city was also raised in the discussion.

Comments also addressed the very process of preparing the urban plan and how ordinary citizens can engage in this process.
Most of the participants rated very positively the very fact that the city is actively trying to involve the public in the preparation of the urban plan. "I would like to appreciate how the city of Olomouc has approached the preparation of the new urban plan," said Olomouc architect Tomáš Pejpek, for example.

Mayor Martin Novotný appreciated the high turnout of experts and called on them to cooperate throughout the entire preparation of the urban plan. "I am glad that you accepted our invitation and will contribute your suggestions to ensure that the new urban plan is functional and meets all the requirements for quality urban development," said the mayor, emphasizing that Olomouc chose a significantly different and unconventional approach to prepare the urban plan, which is entirely different from the usual practice in the past and in other cities.

Among the invited guests were architects, various civic associations and non-profit organizations, as well as representatives of significant city institutions from universities to churches to components of the integrated rescue system. "This discussion was certainly not the last, we would like to engage in further and much more intense dialogue, especially in the conceptual phase, when citizens will have available not only the general text of the assignment but also graphic materials, where they can already see how each specific location will further develop," emphasized the head of the Department of Concept and Development Radek Dosoudil.

The public discussion of the draft assignment for the urban plan of the city of Olomouc will take place on Thursday, November 27 at 3 PM in the conference room of the city hall building on Hynaisova Street in Olomouc. This time, anyone can participate in the discussion. Interested parties can find the text of the assignment on the website www.olomouc.eu/uzemni-planovani, in the information center in the arcade of the town hall, or at the Department of Concept and Development on Hynaisova Street.

The urban plan, which will gradually be developed from 2008 to 2011, will shape the appearance of the city for at least the next fifteen years after its approval. The intention to prepare a new urban plan was approved by the City Council of Olomouc at its meeting on September 15, 2008. At that time, the city of Olomouc launched an unprecedentedly extensive information campaign to involve the public as much as possible in the process of preparing this strategic document.

The need for the creation of a new urban plan was triggered not only by its current unsatisfactory state, caused by numerous changes in ownership relations and other modifications, but also by the new Building Act, which came into effect on January 1, 2007. This law limited the validity of certain urban plans until December 31, 2011.
