Olomouc - The Olomouc city hall will start preparing a new urban plan in the autumn. The strategic document, which for example determines where residential buildings or industrial enterprises can be erected, aims to be completed by the city in 2011. The development of the plan will cost between ten to 15 million crowns, Mayor Martin Novotný told reporters today.
The city hall is compelled to create a new urban plan by legislation. "However, the city needs a new urban plan regardless of that. The current one is outdated, reflecting the realities of the 1990s when there was a completely different situation in terms of the city's economic development potential or our knowledge of investment intentions," said the mayor.
The current state leads to the city council approving dozens of changes to the existing urban plan each year. According to Novotný, almost every intention that investors bring to Olomouc triggers the need for a change.
"The new urban plan will not be as strict as the current one. It will define the functional use of areas, but not in the way the current one does, which needs to be changed when there are supposed to be four more offices somewhere, although it is not about resolving the difference between a residential building and a hypermarket," said the mayor. He added that the ambition of the new urban plan is for it to be valid for several decades.
The current plan was begun by the city hall in 1994. It came into effect four years later. Due to the demands of people and investors, it has already undergone changes in almost 140 locations in the city.
