The renovation of the Slaný Kumpán's garden continues, and two playgrounds are also set to be added

Slaný - The restoration of Slaný's Kumpán Garden continues this year, with the city completely repairing the fence including the historic wall, under the supervision of preservationists. A children's and sports playground will also be added, said the mayor of Slaný, Martin Hrabánek (ODS), to ČTK. The first part of the park's reconstruction received the Heritage Award 2022.

The restoration of the protected historical limestone wall involves dismantling it into individual stones and reassembling it. The repair also concerns the adjacent road. The total costs will amount to approximately ten million crowns. The next phase of the restoration, which will concern the central part, will cost around eight million crowns. In addition to the playgrounds, it will also include the repair of the aqueduct. "It should be one of the two functional aqueducts in the Czech Republic," said the mayor.

The garden is open to the public daily. "At the same time, we are trying to continue reviving the park, there should already be the first wedding ceremonies there this year," added Hrabánek. A wine event is also expected to take place here in September.

The garden was created in 1939 according to the design of garden architect Josef Kumpán (1885 to 1961). Kumpán also designed parks at the lán municipality or the Zbraslav Castle and the Rose Garden on Prague's Petřín Hill. He is the author of nearly 1400 plans for gardens, parks, orchards, cemeteries, and sports facilities. Since 2018, Kumpán's garden, along with the adjacent chateau, has been a cultural monument. The city will still decide on the repair of the building; potential uses include a kindergarten, nursing service, or a pediatrician's office. A study is currently being developed to assess what the spaces will allow.
