Pardubice – Pardubice will begin designing the repair of Třída Míru, where the pavement is unstable. The city still needs to complete the section leading to Zelená Brána. No start date for the work has been set, but it will follow the reconstruction of Náměstí Republiky, which the city hall plans in the coming years. This was stated to ČTK by Deputy Mayor Jan Hrabal and Mayor Jan Nadrchal (both ANO). Třída Míru serves as a pedestrian zone lined with shops and cafes on both sides. The city hall repaired its two sections in 2022 and 2023.
"Mr. designer Pokorný has the task of preparing a project that will build on the modifications at Náměstí Republiky. More information will be available only after the project is processed,” said Hrabal.
Problems on Třída Míru have been occurring since the completion of the overall repair in 2014. Rain has washed away the gravel between the granite tiles, causing them to loosen, tilt, and gradually break off. The situation has been worsened by public transport operations, as the method of laying the pavement was not suitable for heavy vehicles. Therefore, starting from December 2023, the city's trolleybuses will not pass through this area.
The tiles in the repaired sections are set firmly in a cement bed, so they cannot tilt or break. In the intersection with Sladkovského Street, there is a cement-concrete surface. The designer must propose the last section, but the city will not have enough pavement, as the construction company consumed it in previous years. It will likely also need granite cubes, which will be used alongside the large tiles.
"There will not be enough large-format tiles. Therefore, we are counting on using large-format tiles for the repair of the most damaged section in the western part of Třída Míru from Jindřišská Street towards Náměstí Republiky, where about half of the surface is made of granite cubes and half of large-format tiles," said Mayor Jan Nadrchal (ANO). The city wants to add more greenery to the avenue and will no longer allow public transport there, he added.
Councilor Petr Klimpl (ODS) repeatedly inquired about the pavement of Třída Míru at the council meeting. According to him, it is a shame that the city has not yet proceeded with the repair of the broken cubes. "Promises for proper repair have been ongoing for at least two years, and only this June did anything begin to happen. However, some working materials from the city indicate that Třída Míru will be addressed only after the reconstruction of Náměstí Republiky, which is expected to finish in 2028. Thus, citizens are unlikely to see a safe surface on Třída Míru quickly, despite the promises of the city's leadership," said Klimpl.
