Brno - The share of wooden buildings among family homes continues to grow. Last year, it reached ten percent. The Association of Manufacturers of Prefabricated Houses (ADMD) estimates that builders completed 1,377 wooden buildings last year. The increase in their number corresponds with the overall growth in newly commenced constructions. This was stated by the chairman of the association, Vratislav Blaha.

According to him, the share of completed wooden buildings should continue to grow in the future. "This is not the final state; in the next five years, we could reach a market share of around 15 percent," believes Blaha. In Austria, according to him, wooden buildings account for about a third of all completed homes, while in Germany, it is 16 percent.

Wooden buildings are of high quality, according to Blaha. Compared to brick buildings, they have excellent thermal insulation properties. A benefit is the speed of construction, which takes a matter of weeks, while the costs are comparable to brick constructions.

A family house with a living area of 120 square meters in rough construction costs about 2.5 million crowns, and if it is a turnkey wooden building, it costs 3 million. "Current investment conditions are favorable in terms of prices and financing options. Some banks offer advantageous loans and interest rates," stated Blaha.

According to him, wooden buildings have become cheaper in recent years also because production capacities have been filled. There are currently around 200 companies on the market, including smaller carpentry businesses.
