Police are prosecuting the chairman of the court in Brno regarding the construction of the justice complex

Brno - The police have charged the chairman of the Regional Court in Brno, Jaromír Pořízek, due to the construction of a new judicial complex in Brno. CTK was informed of this today by the court spokesperson Miroslava Sedláčková. She did not specify the exact criminal offense Pořízek is charged with. According to her, Pořízek considers the charge absurd. He has already informed the Minister of Justice Pavel Blažek (ODS) about it. The construction project for the judicial complex, which cost two billion crowns, is criticized for significant overpricing.
    The Pořízek case is being handled by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Ostrava. The chairman of the court stated that his charge is "stitched together with a hot needle", Sedláčková reported. In the past, he repeatedly denied any wrongdoing related to the project of the new judicial complex.
    Minister Blažek can now temporarily relieve Pořízek of his duties as the chairman of the court until the entire criminal case is concluded.
    The judicial complex includes the building where the Brno City Court and the Brno-Country District Court are located. It also includes a second building housing the Brno City Public Prosecutor's Office along with the public prosecutor's office for the Brno-Country district.
    In 2005, it was anticipated that the construction of the complex would cost 805 million crowns, but after precise calculations, the cost rose to 1.674 billion crowns. This investment was also approved by the Ministry of Justice. However, the total costs amounted to 1.938 billion crowns. This amount includes the construction of the buildings and their equipment.
    Pořízek has previously pointed out that the change in costs of the project is poorly explained. According to him, while they increased from the original 800 million to nearly two billion, all data from the documentation, such as connections to transport infrastructure or utilities, were not known when the initial amount was set.
    The original tender process also did not account for the fact that the Brno-Country District Prosecutor's Office would move to the new complex. Pořízek is currently prosecuted, according to available information, for misconduct related to the construction of the building for prosecutors.
    The Brno Financial Directorate decided some time ago that there had been a shortcoming in the entire project and imposed a fine on the Regional Court in Brno. Although it identified shortcomings, they were administrative. The Regional Court should return two billion crowns to the state budget for these issues, which is essentially the entire amount that was invested in the judicial complex project. However, the complex already stands and serves its purposes.
