Brno – Police and firefighters will have a new shared facility at the Brno Dam, where they will find their base. The investment in the new building will cost approximately 200 million crowns. The original building from the 1970s no longer meets their needs and will be demolished. During today's ceremonial groundbreaking for the new facility, Milan Grohmann, Deputy Director of the Logistics Support Administration of the Czech Police Presidium, stated this.
The original building on Hrázní Street has been serving firefighters and the police diving unit since the 1970s. However, according to Grohmann, it ceased to meet their needs at the beginning of the 21st century. It was also very energy-intensive. "The feasibility study then showed that it is much better to build a new building than to renovate the old one," said the deputy.
The new building is expected to serve the same purpose as the previous one, providing facilities for both firefighters and police divers. However, it should be more space-efficient to meet their needs. "There will be an entire additional floor, and an extension will be created to the north," said the deputy. Both firefighters, who will have four garages for vehicles instead of two, and police officers will have more space available. There will also be new training spaces and accommodation options.
According to the deputy, the current facility will begin demolition next week, which will last one to two months. However, the foundation of the new facility is planned by the end of the year. The new building is expected to be completed in the first half of 2023.
