Invitation to Mařena 2016 and the series of accompanying lectures
The traditional happening of the students of the Faculty of Architecture and the annual initiation of freshmen will take place on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at 7:30 PM at Fléda. This is preceded by a week-long cultural and lecture program.
No one really knows what Mařena truly means and under what circumstances it came about, but students have been passing down its principles among themselves for many years. It is organized by fourth-year students in their final semester before their bachelor thesis. However, first-year students play a central role in it. They are accepted into the academic community through this process (initiation).
The entire event lasts more than one working week, accompanied by lectures and workshops with well-known figures in architecture, design, and art at the faculty and in Prague (forum for architecture and media). The evenings conclude with concerts and other musical performances. The whole Mařena culminates in the initiation of each freshman from the Faculty of Architecture. It begins with a parade that starts from the Faculty of Architecture, continues past significant architectural buildings, objects, and endeavors in the city of Brno, and ends in a club with a test of courage for the FA student.
