Prague - The capital city has received a letter of approval from the Vatican regarding the purchase of the deconsecrated church of St. Simon and Jude, which now serves as a concert hall for the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK. The city will buy the monument for 99 million crowns. Jan Chabr (TOP 09), a Prague councilor, told ČTK and Czech Radio today. The 17th-century church, located on Dušní Street in Prague 1, is currently leased by the capital city.

"The city has received a letter from the Vatican, stating that it is willing to sell the church of St. Simon and Jude. The church is intended to serve in the future as the headquarters for FOK. I think this is the right step because the city is acquiring a strategic property and a beautiful monument," said Chabr.

The original price was over 120 million crowns. After long negotiations, the city secured a discount.

The church dedicated to St. Simon the Zealot and the apostle Jude was built in the 17th century on the site of a Gothic church. The Baroque monument was part of a hospital for the compassionate brothers. Under the agreement, the church has been under the long-term management of the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK.
