Příbram - Příbram will continue the renovation of Jiráskovy Sad during this year, with the second phase focusing on the area in front of the school buildings. This will involve the renewal of sewerage and water supply systems, the modification of the area, the installation of new furniture, and semi-buried waste containers. The town hall will announce a competition for contractors in the coming days, with the estimated value of the contract being 36.5 million crowns, spokesperson for the town hall Eva Švehlová told ČTK today.

In the first phase, which began last September, the work concentrated on the intersection of Hailova, Jiráskovy Sad, and Gen. R. Tesařík. Workers renewed the water supply and sewage distribution systems and modified the surfaces. According to earlier information, the work cost nearly eight million crowns.

The town hall is also preparing another phase, the reconstruction of part of Jiráskovy Sad towards Pražská Street. To prepare the architectural study, they have involved the public, but results from the survey are not yet available.

The city is also interested in renewing public toilets in Jiráskovy Sad. The existing toilets, located in a private building, have been closed for a long time. The town hall is negotiating with the building owner regarding their reopening. "If an agreement cannot be reached with the owner, we have a backup solution ready, which is to place a modular facility similar to that on Dvořákovo embankment," said Deputy Mayor Vladimír Karpíšek (for ANO).

Jiráskovy Sad was established on Panská meadow between the brewery and the former shooting range between 1840 and 1841. In 1921, to commemorate the seventieth birthday of writer Alois Jirásek, it was named after him. It is likely that linden trees were also planted along the school buildings at that time. In 1938, as the second world war was approaching, a monument by sculptor Václav Šára was placed here, featuring the main characters from Jirásek's novel Filosofská historie.
