Prague – Prague has changed its zoning plan to allow the construction of a tram line from Vinohradská Street around the main train station to Bolzanova Street. The change was approved today by the representatives. It is not yet clear when construction will begin; the municipality together with the Prague 1 city hall is also planning modifications to Vrchlického Sady near the station. In addition to this route, Prague is preparing an extension of the line from Vinohradská Street to Wenceslas Square.

According to the city's plans, trams from Vinohradská Street will in the future travel from the National Museum to the State Opera, across the main road, continue through the park around the main train station, and connect to the existing line in Bolzanova Street.

The new line is expected to provide not only better transport connectivity but also relief for the overloaded tram network in the center, which is dependent on key lines such as those in Vodičkova, Lazarská, or Ječná Street. These lines cannot be bypassed in the event of an accident; the new line is intended to provide the necessary detour.

Changes are also planned for Vrchlického Sady, which locals derogatorily refer to as Sherwood due to the high concentration of homeless people and drug addicts. The city administration approved a competition last year for a new design of the park, which will take into account the new tram line and plans that Prague 1 has for the area.

The current administration of the capital is also preparing the construction of a tram line from Vinohradská Street across Wenceslas Square, where it will connect to the tracks linking Vodičkova and Jindřišská Streets. This construction does not require a change in the zoning plan. It is also not clear when construction will begin. Trams stopped running in the square in 1980.
