Harburg/Praha - The German architect Hermann Helmer left an exceptionally deep mark on the territory of the Czech Republic, and it will be 100 years since his death on April 2. In Karlovy Vary alone, according to the designs of Helmer and his colleague Ferdinand Fellner, the Hot Spring Colonnade, the local theater, Goeth's Viewpoint, and the famous Grandhotel Pupp were built or reconstructed. Both men also designed, for example, the buildings of the City Theater in Liberec, the Mahen Theater in Brno, and the Slovak National Theater.
Hermann Helmer was born on July 13, 1849, in the German town of Harburg. However, he spent his entire professional life in Vienna. After studying at the Technical University of Munich, he joined Ferdinand Fellner's studio, and in the early 1870s, they established a studio that became the most significant builder of theaters throughout Austria-Hungary. Together, they designed and completed around fifty theaters across Europe, and they designed a total of about 200 buildings.
