Plzeň - The largest videomapping show, an artistic projection in open space, will be part of the festive opening of the Plzeň - European Capital of Culture 2015 project on January 17. It will be projected not only onto the facade of St. Bartholomew's Cathedral but also on the historic houses surrounding Plzeň's Republic Square. CTK was informed about this by Jan Hrdlička, the director of 3dsense, which is preparing the videomapping. The light show will be part of a program conducted under the direction of Petr Forman.
"The total projection area of the videomapping show will cover about 5000 square meters. It will include the wall of the cathedral, two blocks of houses, and two large screens, all forming an enclosed space on three sides. This will ensure a comprehensive impression of the entire performance. Its scale is unprecedented in the Czech Republic," said Hrdlička.
According to him, everything that Plzeň residents can be proud of will be projected, including key moments in the city's history, its development, and significant personalities. "Plzeň can thus present its giants such as Ladislav Sutnar, Jiří Trnka, or František Křižík," added Petr Forman, who is the artistic director of the Plzeň - European Capital of Culture 2015 project.
"In working on the videomapping, we find it challenging not to use projection just as a spectacular fireworks display but to give it a broader narrative context related to the specific place and theme. Technically, this means we have to synchronize lights, sound, projections, sensors, lighting costumes, and even actors," stated Josef Lepša, the lead animator of the 3dsense group. The accompaniment to the visuals in Plzeň will be provided by an orchestra presenting a new composition by conductor and composer Marko Ivanović.
The 3dsense group, composed of not only artists but also programmers and technicians, produces art based on modern technologies. Their work includes light installations, projections, videomapping shows, and stage scenography. In addition to large one-time events, the group is also dedicated to creating long-term installations - for example in museums, bars, or theaters.
