Prague - A total of six appeals have been filed against the building permit for the house U Milosrdných, dubbed the marshmallow. This was learned by ČTK from the official bulletin of Prague 1. Locals are bothered by the fact that the building does not fit into the tight neighborhood of the Anežský Klášter in the historic center of Prague. The authorities are currently reviewing the issued zoning decision, which is a necessary condition for the building permit. The construction department of Prague 1 issued the building permit in mid-June. If the review ends with the cancellation of the zoning decision, the issued building permit will be invalid. "The basic prerequisite for issuing a building permit is the existence of a valid and effective zoning decision," states the appeal by the civic association U Milosrdných. The investor Praga Progetti e investimenti appealed against the review proceedings at the Ministry for Regional Development. The issued decision is also being reviewed by the heritage commission of the Ministry of Culture. The project, which people nicknamed the marshmallow due to the proposed color of the facade, evokes strong emotions in Prague. In the past, hundreds of people gathered in the city center in protest against the construction. The associations and residents of nearby houses are bothered that certain permits were issued many years ago for a house that was supposed to look different. They also criticize the inappropriateness of the building for the historic center of Prague and the immediate proximity to the Anežský Klášter. The house was designed by architect Zdeněk Fránek, and the project has changed several times. The original design from 2008, which featured a glass facade, was rejected by the Ministry of Culture based on the opinion of the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ), and the permit from Prague's heritage protectors was canceled in 2010. However, the new project by Praga Progetti e Investimenti with windows shaped like faces was approved by both the NPÚ and the municipal heritage protectors, and the building permit was issued on this basis. The author of the design rejects the criticisms of opponents, claiming he never intended for a facade in pink, which led to the project's nicknames after pink and white candy.
