The reconstruction of the heritage-listed train station in Jaroměř is set to begin in April

Jaroměř - The reconstruction of the railway station building in Jaroměř, located in the Náchod region, is expected to begin in April. The completion date for the construction work is set for October 2025, as stated on the website of the Railway Administration (SŽ). The total costs for the repair of the listed railway station are preliminarily estimated at 179.7 million crowns excluding VAT.

"The evaluation of the tender is ongoing. After its conclusion, we will inform about the details, including the company, the awarded price of the construction work, and similar," said SŽ spokesperson Nela Eberl Friebová to ČTK.

The modernization of the station building will follow the reconstruction of the station area from 2018 and 2019. The station building is connected by a roof to the new bus terminal, which began serving passengers in the summer of 2020.

The project includes a complete reconstruction of the station building. Modifications to the internal layout are planned, which will expand commercial and office spaces. A new public restroom will be built in the facility, and the operation of the restaurant will be restored, according to SŽ representatives.

The history of the Jaroměř station building dates back to the 1860s, and it has been reconstructed several times since then. "The aim of the proposed construction modifications is to increase user comfort and safety for passengers and staff, as well as to allow for new uses of the existing spaces," stated SŽ.

The building will have new installations, builders will repair the roof, facade, restore or possibly replace windows and doors. The reconstruction of the ticket offices will create space for the possibility of expanding to a second carrier. Publicly accessible areas will be expanded by the currently separated waiting room, which will be freely accessible from the check-in hall. Access to all publicly accessible areas will be barrier-free.

The project includes the establishment of a commercial operation, such as a printing shop in areas adjacent to the check-in hall. Builders will also restore the unused space of the original restaurant, where gastronomic operations will return. Lockable bike racks will be located in close proximity to the station building, and there are also plans to modify the public areas around the station.

The extensive reconstruction of the railway junction in Jaroměř from 2018 to 2019, costing more than 900 million crowns excluding tax, resulted in several months of closures. Two new platforms are accessible by an underpass with elevators and are connected to the historic railway building from the 19th century. The tracks and everything related to railway infrastructure have been completely repaired. The new bus terminal connecting to the train station was built at a cost of nearly 70 million crowns. Jaroměř is an important regional transport hub for both buses and trains.
