Roztoky (near Prague) – Roztoky near Prague have built a primary school on the site of the former Žalov brickworks. The capacity of schools in the town was already insufficient. Up to 240 students can attend the new school, which will open in September. The construction costs reached 154 million crowns excluding VAT, as reported by Roztok's Deputy Mayor Michal Hadraba and the head of the Department of Administration and Development of the City Petr Skřivan.
According to Hadraba, the school currently being completed is the third major construction project aimed at increasing the capacity of Roztok's primary schools. "Unregulated new housing development between 2000 and 2006 led to a significant increase in the population," Hadraba stated. Roztoky now has nearly 9,000 registered residents, compared to approximately 3,000 fewer 20 years ago.
The new school features eight classrooms, two language classrooms, one science classroom, and one information technology classroom. It also includes an after-school program, kitchen, and cafeteria with a daily capacity of up to 600 meals, with about half of that capacity serving as a reserve for distribution to other municipal facilities.
The city partially covered the construction costs from European funds, having drawn 56 million crowns from them, and plans to utilize further grants for equipping the school.
A gymnasium is also planned to be built next to the building. "Given the limited amount of financial resources in our budget, we decided to postpone its construction by a few years (the estimated construction cost is 50 million crowns excluding VAT, based on prices from the year 2020)," the deputy mayor described. Physical education classes will temporarily take place on a playground with an inflatable dome on the land next to the new school.
