This year's, already the 18th edition of the Salon of Wooden Structures festival was inaugurated on Wednesday, April 19, by renowned foreign architects with their presentations. The exhibition of the best wooden structures of the present, along with an impressive wooden installation, will be on display at the piazzetta of the National Theatre until mid-May.

The Salon of Wooden Structures festival has concluded two main introductory days full of lectures by foreign architects, such as Helmut Dietrich from Austria, the author of a residential quarter in the French city of Toulouse, and Reiulf Ramstadt, whose studio in Norway built the unique Romsdal Folk Museum.

Both projects serve as inspiration for Czech architects, builders, and investors. Despite being large-scale buildings, their main construction material is wood. This breaks the misconception that large buildings cannot be constructed from this natural material. On the same topic, Czech architect and author of the book Wood! Matyáš Cigler, as well as architect and founder of the Salon of Wooden Structures Pavel Horák, spoke during the introductory day at the CAMP center in Prague.

The Salon's program continued on April 20 in the glass hall on the ground floor of the New Stage at the piazzetta of the National Theatre, where the Day of Wooden Architecture took place. During this event, the audience heard presentations of the most interesting wooden buildings from recent times by Czech and Slovak architects. “During the Day of Wooden Architecture, visitors also had the opportunity to learn about the latest innovations in technologies and materials. I believe we succeeded in supporting both the professional and lay public in the idea that using wood as an ecological natural material in construction is the right decision. That is, after all, the goal of the entire Salon of Wooden Structures,” says Pavel Horák.

On the same day, an outdoor exhibition also began at the National Theatre, installed on a prominent wooden structure, showcasing the best that has emerged in the last year in the field. “The exhibition aims to inform about current trends in wooden structures, show what can be built from wood, and also inspire those who are still considering wooden construction,” describes Pavel Horák. The exhibition will be open for visits until May 17.

The 38 exhibited wooden structures also represent the traditional Yearbook of Wooden Architecture '23, whose launch concluded the Day of Wooden Architecture. It also includes interesting interviews and articles on the topic.
