Moravský Krumlov - More than 52,000 people visited the Slav Epic by Alphonse Mucha last year in Moravský Krumlov in the Znojmo region. The collection of monumental canvases returned to the castle in mid-2021. Thus, the first complete tourist season was last year. This statistic was provided today by ČTK for the city of Moravský Krumlov by Eva Fruhwirtová.
Since the summer holidays, the tourist offer at the castle has been expanded with new guided tours - the noble chambers and the tower. Interested visitors can also view the exhibition Tunnel to the 20th Century, which is organized by the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes. Over 7,000 visitors took advantage of this opportunity.
"People from all over the Czech Republic and abroad are coming to Moravský Krumlov. Among them are individuals, families, as well as senior tours and school groups. In collaboration with the Mucha Foundation, we took part in a series of exhibitions Timeless Mucha: Connecting Worlds," said Mayor Tomáš Třetina (TOP 09).
During the past year, the information center also moved to the castle. At one location, tourists can purchase tickets for the Slav Epic, for the castle tours, and also get additional tips for trips around the city and its surroundings.
From the autumn, visitors have had the option to tour the Slav Epic with an audio guide. In the second half of the year, specialists digitized Mucha's canvases in high resolution. The Slav Epic thus became part of the digital collection of Google Arts & Culture. Since November, visitors to the Slav Epic can also view the exhibition of the Kampa Museum, located at the castle.
The Slav Epic and the castle tours can be visited year-round. Except for the first two weeks of this year, the castle with its exhibitions will be open regardless of the season, except on Mondays.
The Epic was displayed in Moravský Krumlov since 1963. In 2011, the then management of Prague had it removed, which caused disputes between the capital and Moravský Krumlov. Currently, the Epic is again on long-term display in Krumlov.
