The Gočár Semín Association continues the renovations of the historic brewery in Semín

Semín – The Gočár Semín Association continues the restoration of the historic brewery in Semín in the Pardubice region. Last June, it opened a smaller part of the space to the public, where some original pre-industrial technologies have been preserved, along with a temporary exhibition about the memorial values of the community and its notable residents, including the famous architect Josef Gočár. During the summer, an open-air cinema was also held on the premises. The chairman of the association, Leoš Kvapil, said that further interesting activities are gradually being prepared.

"This year, we decided to complete the historical exhibition on brewing and malting and expand it to include a pre-industrial brewhouse that functioned from the Middle Ages until 1840. We are working on documentation and would like to have everything completed by June," said Kvapil.

In the future, beer should be brewed at the brewery again. "We expect an annual output of 2,000 hectoliters. We are preparing technology for the microbrewery and restaurant, but we will start operations only after the reconstruction of the entire facility, which will take about two to three years," Kvapil said.

The brewery in Semín is part of the monument-protected chateau from the 16th century. It was established at the end of the 17th century, and beer was brewed there for more than 200 years. One of the brewers was the father of Josef Gočár. The last owner was Jindřich Dvořák, who closed the unprofitable brewery in 1926. After that, the dilapidated buildings were used as warehouses by the Pardubice and Chrudim breweries and also contained apartments.

The chateau with the brewery in Semín belongs to the Semín Castle Brewery company, which is owned by Danup holding. The owners are investors in the brewing industry. In the future, besides the microbrewery with a restaurant and other historical exhibits, such as about Gočár in the entire attic space or about the national natural monument Semínský přesyp, there should also be accommodation facilities in various categories, beer baths, and a wellness center on the premises.
