Náchod – The community center in Náchod will be built by the company Průmstav Náchod for 56.8 million crowns, including tax. The original tender winner, who offered a price of 56 million crowns, withdrew from the contract. He justified this with the unpredictably rapid increase in construction material prices and the shortage of workers following the departure of Ukrainian workers back to their homeland after the outbreak of war. This was stated by city hall spokeswoman Nina Adlof during today's signing of the contract between Průmstav and the city.

The community center for various interest organizations and societies is lacking in the twenty-thousand-strong Náchod. The building, according to the design by Tomáš Vymetálek Architects, will be the largest currently planned investment by the city.

The building is expected to be completed at the turn of 2023/2024. It will fill a gap between buildings on Hur- dálkově Street in the city center. "The demolition of the former fire station and adjacent buildings is already completed. The rescue archaeological survey of the site is also finished," said the spokeswoman.

The project includes a conference hall for 50 people, exhibition spaces for exhibits of significant Náchod natives, namely the writer and publisher Josef Škvorecký and architect Jan Letzel. The building will also have smaller club rooms and studios. An open space with a hard surface and greenery will be created in front of the building.

"An interesting and well-accessible location in the city center will now gain full-fledged use. Many Náchod societies will find their base for meetings here. They will be able to hold annual meetings, lectures, training sessions, and many other activities," stated Mayor Jan Birke (ČSSD).

Last year, when launching the competition, the city already addressed the rising prices of construction materials and labor. In the autumn, the city council increased the estimated price by a fifth to 62 million crowns from the original 52 million crowns. Birke then did not rule out that if the bids exceeded 62 million crowns, the city hall would consider canceling the tender and postponing the construction to a later date. The city is funding the project from its own resources and does not have a subsidy for it.

This year, Náchod plans investments worth 213 million crowns. In addition to the community center, significant amounts will go into the repair of the Náchod - Jizbice road, into the natural science station at the children's leisure center Déčko, and into the restoration of the park in the area of the so-called old spa.
