Náchod – The 21,000-strong town of Náchod is preparing for the construction of a community center for approximately 40 million crowns. The city hall intends to build it in the city center on Hurdálková Street in the gap between the Vesmír cinema and the municipal police building. The city has already had an architectural study prepared, and the actual construction could take place in 2021. Nina Adlof, the spokesperson for the city hall, said this today. Náchod currently does not have a community center for various interest organizations and associations.
Facilities for meetings, lectures, training sessions, and other activities could be found in the community center by, for example, the Atelier of Painters and Graphic Artists, the Czech Red Cross, the local Diabetics Union of the Czech Republic, the Náchod Photographic Club, or the Náchod Theater Scene. The study by Tomáš Vymetálek Architects also includes smaller studios and clubrooms. Exhibitions featuring notable natives of Náchod, such as writer Josef Škvorecký and architect Jan Letzel, could be established in the building.
The project is also expected to include the construction of a new elevator to the Vesmír cinema building. "The elevator will enable barrier-free access to all floors, allowing for the use of additional spaces for community activities," the spokesperson stated. A small square is to be created in the gap. Inside the community center, a passage connecting to the courtyard is planned, linking Hurdálková Street with Volovnice Street.
The future community center is also to include the birthplace of Bishop Josef František Hurdálek, which stands at the back of the gap. "We would like to preserve the historical footprint of this building as evidence of the original architecture and urban structure of the city," said Deputy Mayor Jan Čtvrtečka (ČSSD).
This year, Náchod plans investments worth 153 million crowns. The main investment will be the reconstruction of the bridge over the Metuje River in Bělovsi for about 22 million crowns. The city hall also plans to build a waste center for 17 million crowns and intends to invest nine million in constructing a community, sports, and cultural center in the Babí district. The major investment in the coming years is expected to be the construction of a multifunctional sports hall in the Bílá Růže area, estimated at 120 million crowns.
