The construction of the footbridge over the Elbe below the castle in Brandýs will be extended until the spring of next year

Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav – The construction of a new footbridge over the Elbe River below the castle in Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav will last until next spring due to complications during its foundation. Originally, the bridge for pedestrians and cyclists was supposed to be completed this autumn. The change in construction technology will also require an increase in cost from 85 to 99 million crowns. The extension of the completion deadline to May 30, 2027, and the increase in price were approved by the city council on Thursday. The city has simultaneously managed to secure almost double the grant from European funds, said Mayor Petr Soukup (Our Twin City).

"Due to complications, among other things, during the foundation of the footbridge near the house on Na Celné Street, the construction technology had to be revised," said Soukup. The actual conditions in the subsoil, according to him, did not correspond to the project assumptions, and thus the next steps required adjustments to the project documentation. "Construction is now ongoing again," Soukup added.

At the same time, the city included the project in this year's action plan for the ITI Prague Metropolitan Area and requested higher support. The originally granted 40 million crowns grant increased to 76 million crowns. The city has an additional five million crowns for the footbridge from the Central Bohemian Region. "The city's contribution will thus be only 18 million crowns despite the higher total cost," Soukup added.

The construction of the footbridge, which will safely connect Brandýs and Stará Boleslav, has been prepared by the city for several years. The preparations have been accompanied by a number of complications, especially high costs. The footbridge, which will run along the route of the former historic bridge, is to end at Nábřeží Street. It should be followed by a lifting bridge that will span the navigation chamber, thus linking the entire area from the castle to Hluchov and Houštka. "Engineering is currently being resolved. A building permit should be issued next year," Soukup added.
