Mokrá-Horákov (Brno region) – Students from the Faculty of Architecture in Brno are seeking ways to modernize municipal libraries and adapt them to new needs. Their proposals have already been implemented in Stošíkovice na Louce in the Znojmo region. They are also focusing on other locations. Today, they visited the municipal library in Mokrá-Horákov in the Brno region for this purpose. The current results of the studio works are available on the website (re)VISION of libraries in the 21st century.

An ideal assignment for students to practice all necessary skills is the design of a municipal library, stated Jan Kratochvíl from the Faculty of Architecture at Brno University of Technology. The character of libraries is significantly changing in the 21st century, just as the ways they are used. "What has been valid for centuries is now confronted with modern information technologies, and architects stand as co-creators at the birth of new libraries with amazing innovative content," wrote Kratochvíl.

Since 2019, students from the second to fourth years have been creating conceptual designs including three-dimensional models for selected municipal libraries, which they visit in person beforehand. A total of ten to fifteen students typically participate, working in teams. They consult their proposals with the Methodological Center for Library Construction and Reconstruction, which operates in the Moravian Library in Brno.

The library in Stošíkovice na Louce is located in a new municipal building and posed a significant challenge for students Mikuláš Nalepa, Natálie Polesová, and Jana Vojtěška Skálová. It has an area of just under 20 square meters. However, the students managed to transform a dull room into an attractive community room, providing a space for both the youngest readers and adults with seniors, noted Anna Mrázová, spokesperson for the Moravian Library.

In Mokrá-Horákov, where the students visited today, the library is larger. It is located in a former coal boiler room. The students also visited Lelekovice in the Brno region, Drnovice in the Vyškov region, and Znojmo.
