Prostějov - Proposals for the use of space in the Renaissance castle in downtown Prostějov will be prepared for the city hall by students from the Faculty of Architecture at the Brno University of Technology. The council allocated 100,000 crowns for the collaboration with the university students. This was announced by the mayor's deputy Jiří Rozehnal (ANO). The Renaissance castle was built in downtown Prostějov between 1522 and 1526 by Jan IV of Pernštejn. The castle is part of the historic preservation core of Prostějov and has been declared a cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture.
"It emerged from the meeting that a program would be presented to the students in the summer semester, which would address the feasibility study of the Prostějov Castle on Pernštýnské náměstí as a whole, and in the subsequent program, students would propose exhibition possibilities in the castle's ground floor," said Rozehnal. The students have already toured the castle and its surroundings to gain a better understanding of its architecture.
In June, the students will present several proposals that will examine the usability of a large part of this castle's space. "Given the extent and significance of this cultural monument, the established collaboration could be extended into subsequent semesters. Students could further develop their proposals within the framework of related annual bachelor's theses or possibly master's theses. The proposed collaboration represents an effective way to obtain a wide range of creative and innovative solutions for the use of spaces in the Prostějov Castle, while also supporting the education of future architects and enhancing the positive image of the city of Prostějov as a partner of academic institutions," noted Rozehnal.
Currently, a stylish bar with a wine cellar and a city gallery operates in the castle grounds. Part of the space is utilized by the Prostějov Elementary Art School. In the castle courtyard, concerts and film screenings are held during the summer.
