Czech Těšín - Tourists can now use the viewing floating pier at the Hrabina reservoir in Czech Těšín in the Karvina region. Its creation was supported by the Moravian-Silesian Region and it complements other piers that were installed last year at the Větřkovice reservoir in Kopřivnice in the Nový Jičín region, the Karvinsko Sea, and Slezská Harta in the Bruntál region. The city is preparing further revitalization of the reservoir. This was stated today by regional spokeswoman Nikola Birklenová and city spokeswoman Nataša Cibulková.
"Water areas have significant recreational potential; we are trying to make them even more attractive to visitors and tourists. Therefore, we have also acquired an architectural study and project documentation for the construction of floating piers that can be placed on these reservoirs. The documentation is not limited to specific water structures but can also be provided to other interested parties,” said Deputy Governor Šárka Šimoňáková. The region contributed 2.2 million crowns to the pier, which is valued at 2.5 million crowns. The pier is a viewing platform intended for sitting, relaxation, and observing the surrounding nature.
The pier at the Hrabina reservoir is the first element of the overall revitalization of the reservoir and its surroundings planned by the city. Cibulková pointed out that the reservoir was constructed in the 1950s as a recreational zone for the residents of Czech Těšín. Although the reservoir is not primarily intended for swimming, it is suitable for fishing, walks in the surroundings, and sports activities. Two scout boating troops also have their base there.
However, the area around the reservoir has not been significantly modified since its inception. "The reason was primarily complicated property relations, which have recently been partially sorted out. Our city has only now become the owner of the crucial parts of the land around the reservoir. So finally, we can start the revitalization of the physically and morally outdated surroundings of this water area. The reservoir has enormous untapped potential, which we want to gradually develop,” said Mayor Karel Kula (Nestraníci 2022).
Therefore, the city commissioned a study for the revitalization of the reservoir last year, based on which the reservoir area should be gradually adjusted and supplemented with new elements. Sidewalks and furniture will be modernized. The area will see the addition of a workout area, a fire pit with seating, as well as facilities for sports activities and smaller cultural events.
Other viewing piers are expected to appear this year at three more water bodies in the region - the Těrlická and Žermanická reservoirs and the Slezská Harta reservoir in the cadastral area of Nová Pláň.
