SPACE AS A TOOL FOR COMMUNICATION
The 4AM Association has been exploring its ideas and visions related to architecture, public space, and art as a tool for communicating important social topics since its inception – both in the Brno Gallery of Architecture (2011-2012) and in the subsequent years when it was located in the premises of the former (now again current) train station on Rosická Street in Brno (2012-2014).
The cultural space PRAHA/Forum for Architecture and Media was established in 2014 in response to the challenge from the Moravian Gallery to open the spaces of a state institution to the public and bring everyday life to the courtyard of the Pražák Palace.
The 4AM Association, composed of experts from architecture, art theory, and free creativity, decided to create a barrier-free cultural space in the premises of the former restoration workshop that would connect various institutions as well as urban subcultures and visitors from both professional and lay audiences.
Emphasis on critical thinking and willingness to continually reassess one’s own positions was defined by the architectural design itself, in which variability and maximum functionality for various types of cultural-artistic events play a fundamental role.
Although PRAHA also served as a gallery café with regular daily operations, its programming was always clearly defined by the professional specializations and viewpoints of the members of 4AM.
After five years of intensive daily operations and more than a thousand events, important meetings, artistic residencies, and authorial installations, the members of the association decided to end the operations of PRAHA in the courtyard of the Pražák Palace at the end of 2019.
4AM will continue to develop its own professional activities and dedicate its efforts to newly emerging projects and personal priorities.
Thanks to all the colleagues, friends, and fans of PRAHA for their support and collaboration!
We look forward to our meeting on December 21, 2019!
