Urban planners presented proposals for the development of Mlýnský Island in Pardubice

Pardubice - Three teams of urban planners presented their concepts for the development of the Mill Island in Pardubice. Among other things, they propose a new street that will connect the embankment of the Chrudimka River with Na Ležánkách Street or a public space in front of the historic building of the automatic mills. Iveta Koubková from the press department of the municipal office informed ČTK about this.

The city wants to create a regulatory plan in the area where the national cultural monument, the mills designed by architect Josef Gočár, is located. Three urban planning teams are competing for the contract. They will meet for the last time in December, after which the city council committee will select the winning team.

"We want to involve property owners, key stakeholders in the area, and other Pardubice residents interested in the future of our city in the discussion about the future shape of Mill Island. Therefore, the presentation of proposals and subsequent discussions are also accessible to the public,"
said Mayor Martin Charvát (ANO).

The concept from the D3A studio proposes one-way traffic on Na Ležánkách Street and one-way passage along the Chrudimka embankment. "We would like to preserve the maximum number of existing buildings. Therefore, the non-protected economic buildings in the area of the Automatic Mills or the silo in the bakery complex should remain," said architect Jaroslav Zíma.

The UNIT architects' office proposes compact low-rise buildings for a wide range of housing types for diverse target groups, such as families with children, students, or seniors.

"The richness of different typologies contributes to social wealth, which is one of the fundamental prerequisites for a vibrant, pleasant, and sustainable locality,"
said Filip Tittl.

The re: architekti office transforms the right bank of the Chrudimka in their proposal into a car-free urban stone embankment that allows social activities along the western facade of the Automatic Mills.

"We would also like to transform the so-called Spojilský waste at the border with the park Na Špici so that the barrier of current steep slopes is replaced with a gently modeled connection," said Michal Kuzemenský.
