Žatec - The first stage of the Triangle City construction will begin in August in the Triangle industrial zone near Žatec. It is expected to provide infrastructure for employees of companies or suppliers. The Ústí Region, which owns the industrial zone, will also announce three contracts, including for the construction of a road, said Stanislav Rybák (KSČM), the deputy governor, to ČTK.
The first phase of the construction involves land development. "This will be followed by the construction of engineering networks, service roads up to a roundabout, and the installation of modern mobile units," said Martin Pondělík from the regional contribution organization SPZ Triangle. Eight accommodations with complete facilities and infrastructure, a cafeteria, and an administrative building will be created from the construction units. The costs of the first phase are expected to be just under 25 million crowns by the end of this year.
According to Rybák, the town should also include a kindergarten for the children of employees. "They won't have to deal with taking their children to kindergarten first and then going to work. This way, they will go together with their children and won't have to wake up earlier," Rybák explained.
The region plans the second phase, which includes the service road, for next year. It is expected to cost about 40 million crowns. In addition, the local government has announced a contract for the project documentation for the construction of bus stops and a connecting road for the needs of firefighters.
The local government is expected to obtain funds for the establishment of the town from compensations for discounts on land for the Korean tire manufacturer Nexen. "The money will be coming in gradually; so far, we haven't encountered any problems in this regard," Rybák added.
Nexen's investment of over 22 billion crowns is one of the largest in Czech history. The Korean tire manufacturer is now awaiting a sales contract for the land. Nexen plans to start production in 2018 and is expected to employ up to 1,500 people.
The Triangle zone is located on the grounds of a former military airport near Žatec, which operated until 1992. The Ústí Region acquired the area of 364 hectares through a gratuitous transfer from the military and invested over three-quarters of a billion crowns into the development of the zone, with state contributions amounting to just under 1.7 billion crowns. At the end of last year, 2,865 people were working in the zone.
