Klášterec nad Ohří - Construction work continues on the conversion of the cultural house into a multifunctional cultural center in Klášterec nad Ohří in the Chomutov region. The new cultural house, which will house the library and facilities for associations, will cost approximately 180 million crowns. To date, 32 million crowns have been invested, said the mayor of Klášterec nad Ohří, Štefan Drozd (Independent), to ČTK today.

At the beginning of this year, the cultural house was closed and builders began the necessary demolition work. The city decided to make this investment primarily due to the inefficiency of the building. The reconstruction began in April and is expected to be completed in the fall of next year. However, according to the mayor, it is likely that the construction will be extended due to complications arising from the coronavirus pandemic.

The construction company has already built the first floor of the building and is working on the second floor. "There is still a need to finish the rough construction, including fillings, all installations, and technologies, including a photovoltaic power plant, elevators, audio, and theater technology. Additionally, external access roads, sidewalks, and parking lots, including public lighting, need to be repaired," the mayor stated.

For the fifteen-thousand-strong town, the complete renovation of the cultural house will be the largest investment in recent years. It has been made possible by good financial results and a 45 million crown grant from the Operational Programme for the Environment. This year, the municipality has allocated over 60 million crowns for the renovation, of which 25 million crowns will be drawn from the city’s reserve, and the rest from this year's revenue. The remaining amount will be invested next year.

The new cultural center will feature two halls and facilities for local theater enthusiasts, as well as office spaces. The city library and a café in the atrium will also find their place here. The library will move from its current, no longer suitable premises in the Panorama community house.
