Klášterec nad Ohří - Klášterec nad Ohří in the Chomutov region is planning a reconstruction of the cultural center, which would enable its transformation into a so-called passive house. The reconstruction of the building and the creation of an extension for the city library would significantly help the city reduce energy costs. The city intends to present the study to the public in June, said Klášterec's mayor Štefan Drozd (Party of Entrepreneurs of the Czech Republic). "The cultural center has been here for more than 50 years and has basically not been touched. We decided to revise the existing study and really turn it into a passive house, thus saving enormously on energy and expanding the cultural center with a library, which would allow the cultural center to be active all day," said Drozd.
The building, which currently houses the city library, is also not in optimal condition. The annual energy costs for these two buildings are currently around one million crowns for the city. The exact costs of the reconstruction of the cultural center will only be determined by the project documentation, but the city estimates them to be around 100 million crowns. "However, it is possible to obtain subsidies for passive houses, which we certainly want to take advantage of," the mayor stated.
Ideally, the project documentation could be completed in the fall of next year, with reconstruction and extension starting in 2019. The reconstructed cultural center could reopen in 2020.
