Mikulov (Břeclavsko) - The management of the castle in Mikulov in the Břeclav region today opened its garden, restored to its baroque form, to tourists. The work cost 25 million crowns, two-thirds of which were covered by the European Union. The garden had been significantly neglected. It is a new green nook in the city. The pruning of the trees offers views of Mikulov's Holy Hill and neighboring Lower Austria. Petr Kubín, the director of the Mikulov Regional Museum, told CTK.
The creator of the garden restoration project is architect Ivar Otruba. He based his work on documents obtained from the archives and historical sketches. Overgrown and aging trees were removed from the garden. The roots of some of them were damaging the terraces. The garden is now planted with new trees, and visitors can look forward to flowerbeds.
In the past, the garden was connected to the castle by a staircase leading to its terrace and into its sally terreny, a spacious hall on the ground floor. The staircase was demolished during communism and has now been restored. According to Kubín, the area is expected to become a venue for numerous social events.
