In Prague 13, a new primary school for 1,152 students is to be established, with the state providing 1.03 billion CZK

Prague – A new elementary school called Západní město with a capacity of 1152 students is set to be built in Prague 13. The complex will offer classrooms, gymnasiums, sports facilities, a central kitchen with a dining area, and parking. The estimated costs are approximately 1.03 billion crowns excluding VAT, with 112 million crowns contributed by private investors in the area. The project was approved today by Prague councilors as a new investment initiative. The project aims to respond to the rapid growth of the population and extensive housing development in Stodůlky.

Prague 13 and the capital city collaborated on the project with the investor in the area. The city district and the city ensured the land for construction, including connection to technical infrastructure, project documentation, and required permits, according to a signed planning agreement. The project is to be financed from the city budget in the years 2027 to 2029, and private investors are contributing a total of 112 million crowns.

According to the councilor for education, Antonín Klecanda (STAN), the focus is currently primarily on the elementary school, but the city is also considering part of a secondary school. Its form and scope may be adjusted according to how the area continues to develop and what the needs for educational capacities will be.

According to the city hall, the complex is intended to be designed as a modern educational campus. In addition to classrooms, it will include gymnasiums and other sports facilities, a central kitchen with a dining area, parking spaces, and transport services will be ensured. The buildings are to be barrier-free and energy-efficient.

The project is currently in an advanced preparation stage, according to the city hall. The project documentation is complete, and the city has obtained a valid permit for the project and documentation for construction. It is not yet clear when construction could begin.

Prague 13 is considered one of the rapidly developing parts of the metropolis, according to the city hall. Housing in Stodůlky has been under construction since 2008, and development is expected to continue according to the new zoning plan. Therefore, with the growing population, the demand for places in preschools, elementary schools, and secondary schools is also increasing.

The lack of capacity in schools has been a long-standing problem in Prague, affecting both peripheral city districts and the broader city center. This is related, among other things, to housing construction and the increasing population, which intensifies the pressure on educational institutions. The city is addressing the situation not only by building new buildings but also by expanding existing schools through extensions and modernizing their facilities.

Elementary schools are established by the city districts, which are also responsible for preschools. The Prague city hall then establishes secondary, higher vocational, special, language, and basic art schools.
