Valašské Meziříčí wants to modify the city market and its surroundings

Valašské Meziříčí – The Town Hall in Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region wants to modify the city market and its surroundings. It has approached the architectural studio of Ondřej Chybík and Michal Krištof, spokesperson for the town hall Jakub Mikuš said in a press release today.

"Within the city council, after considering all the offered options, we decided to approach the Brno studio led by Ondřej Chybík and Michal Krištof. These architects are, among other things, holders of the Design Vanguard award from 2019 in the category of best young architectural studio in the world and were listed by Forbes in 2015 in the category of Czech 30 under 30. We therefore commissioned them to develop an architectural study of the VALMEZ Market. We believe they can breathe new life into the slightly neglected space in the center of our city," said Deputy Mayor Yvona Wojaczková (ANO).

The market is located under the road bridge running through the city. The architectural study will address not only the market but also the municipal land between both banks of the Rožnovská Bečva river bordered by Nábřeží, Mostní, Zašovská, Na Tržnici, and Vrbenská streets. The city will pay almost 970,000 crowns for the study.

"The advantage of direct commissioning for the study's development, compared to an architectural competition, is the acceleration of the entire process by about six months and also cost savings associated with remuneration for jury members and authors of award-winning designs. Given that we have already tried the competition for municipal land in the area of the former Křižan's sawmill, we decided this time to approach a globally renowned architectural studio directly," Wojaczková stated.

The study will include an urban concept of the area, connections to the municipal and transport infrastructure including bike paths, and proposals for the placement of new buildings and the design of public spaces including furnishings.

"For this purpose, a project team has also been appointed, which works closely with the Brno architectural studio, and whose guarantor is Deputy Mayor Yvona Wojaczková. The advisory team involved in the creation of the architectural study also includes renowned architects with ties to Valašské Meziříčí and representatives of the local committees Krásno 1 - Křižná and Krásno 2 - Obora," said project team leader David Černoch.
