All three water towers on Yellow Hill in Brno will open to visitors on March 22.

Brno - On World Water Day, that is March 22, unique water tanks under Zluty Hill in Brno will open to visitors. Thousands of tourists have already visited the underground spaces, but it is only in March that they will see the technical monument in all its glory, including all three tanks, the visitor center, and the revitalized park. The official opening for invited guests will be held on March 21. Throughout the following weekend, visitors can expect audiovisual light installations, said Hana Bánovská from the city organization TIC Brno today.

The Zluty Hill water tanks from 1874, 1894, and 1917 were created to strengthen Brno's water supply system. They served their purpose until 1997.

"Since the provisional opening of the first one in 2020, they have become one of Brno's most sought-after tourist attractions, and the sold-out guided tours confirm that the nearly 150 million investment was meaningful. The site is structurally ready for operation, currently inspections by all relevant state bodies are underway, and we are waiting for the building approval," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

From 2020 to March 2022, visitors could only see one of the tanks. In the autumn of 2022, after reconstruction, the first water tank reopened, and the second brick tank joined it, while work began on making the third concrete tank accessible. Since the first opening in 2020, 32,000 visitors have entered the underground.

"We will symbolically open the gates of the water tanks to the public on World Water Day, March 22. Until Sunday, March 24, we have extended the opening hours, and visitors will not only enter the third concrete tank for the first time, but will also enjoy all the spaces differently thanks to impressive audiovisual installations," said Jana Janulíková, the director of TIC Brno.

In the first and second brick water tanks, visitors can look forward to a tasting of the Prototyp festival, which will take place in full in the autumn. In the concrete water tank, an installation titled Critical Level is being prepared by musical and media artists Jiří Suchánek and Petr Bradáček.
