“So certainly an enlightened attempt and a good contribution and example for other cities.”
The map based on a subjective selection of quality architecture brings interpretations and stories of fifty-six places: sacred buildings, family houses, industrial monuments, but also pubs with atmosphere or bizarre realizations.
The authors of the map are architect Vladislav Králíček and journalist Tereza Škoulová. “Finally, we have something to offer to our friends we invite to Kyjov!” they laugh and explain their motivation: “We wanted to highlight the timeless beauty of unremarkable buildings and at least preserve on paper those that are threatened with extinction without conscious care.”
The minimalist graphic design in several shades of gray with red accents is the work of Králíček. The texts are by Škoulová. The reverse side of the map features a collage of black and white photographs taken together during a series of cycling trips.
The ceremonial launch of the map took place on June 6, 2020, at the Kyjov café Pražírna, where the Architectural Map can be purchased for 50 CZK. Until the end of August, there is a sales exhibition of photographs that did not fit into the map. Proceeds from the sales will go to support the authors, who are already planning further exploratory trips.
