Žatec

The A dál? association has completed its project from the city's participatory budget
80 buildings, 30 works of art, 10 tombstones in the municipal cemetery, and several architectural gems. This is the balance of the map created by art historian Monika Merdová and architect Eva Sladká from the A dál? association, which has been active in the town of Žatec for four years.
Thus, a unique guide to Žatec's architecture has been created in the form of a printed folding map, which presents well-known as well as forgotten architectural monuments in a clear manner. “The creation of the architectural map crowns our years of research on Žatec's architectural heritage. We searched for information in archives, museums, libraries, and in the field. Not that we think we know everything; on the contrary, we see the map as a commitment to an even deeper study,” explains Monika Merdová.
“We struggled with how many buildings to include and how to display them on the map. Our selection had to leave behind some victims. There are simply too many architectural points of interest in Žatec for one map,” laughs Eva Sladká. “We promise that both locals and tourists will enjoy and learn from the map, and we also believe that it will become an essential companion on walks through our town,” adds the association representative regarding the creation of the map.
The implementation of the architectural map of the town of Žatec was voted on by the public in the historically first participatory budget. The A dál? association prepared it in collaboration with the Office Department and its head Simona Schellová. Together, they will unveil the map during the opening of the Žatec Courtyards program on September 4, 2021, at 1 PM in the arcade of the Žatec information center at Freedom Square.
