Vysoké Mýto (Orlickoústecko) – Vysoké Mýto has completed the first phase of the renovation of the municipal cemetery, which the town hall started two years ago. After the renovation of the former morgue, the first part of the columbarium is finished. The construction company is working on the next project, which is the construction of a mourning hall costing tens of millions, Deputy Mayor Martin Krejza (ODS) stated in a press release.

"We are completing the first phase of a larger reconstruction at the Vysoké Mýto cemetery. This began two years ago with the renovation of the former morgue, and this year we completed the first part of the columbarium, which was previously missing in the Vysoké Mýto cemetery," said Krejza.

A facility for cemetery visitors and the cemetery manager was created in the original morgue. The columbarium has 304 niches. The renovation of the former morgue and the new columbarium cost the city 13.8 million crowns. "The columbarium is finished; we are fine-tuning the last details, and by the end of the year, it will certainly be possible to start using it," Krejza stated.

In addition, a new mourning hall is being built on the cemetery grounds. It will cost nearly 104 million crowns and will replace the original one, which is in poor condition and needed to be demolished. It was built in the 1980s and exhibited structural defects.

According to the deputy mayor, the construction is progressing as planned. The hall should be completed by the end of this year and subsequently put into operation. Architect Roman Brychta designed the new white circular hall with a glass roof and inner walls. This created a cylinder set into a lower square roof structure for mourning gatherings.

"In terms of concept, the process began five years ago with an architectural competition won by architect Roman Brychta along with architect Zdeněk Sendler, who designed the park modifications. The construction is nearing its completion," Krejza added.
