Prague - A new primary school (ZŠ) in Šeberov, Prague, whose construction began today, will offer students 14 core classrooms and additional spaces. The building is designed to be expandable in the future to accommodate up to 27 core classrooms. This was announced to journalists today by Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates) and the Councilor for Education Vít Šimral (Pirates). The school is being constructed for approximately 477 million CZK by the companies PKS stavby and VISTORIA CZ on municipal land on K Hrnčířům Street.
The core classrooms will serve individual grades. They indicate how many students can attend the school.
According to Councilor Šimral, there are plans to build educational facilities in the outskirts of Prague, where there is a shortage of such spaces. He stated that the demographic increase, as young families move to these areas, plays a significant role in this development.
Further population growth is also expected in the catchment area of Šeberov and its surroundings, including Kunratice. The currently emerging primary school is designed with technological facilities to allow for future expansion. "I consider further increasing the capacity of kindergartens and primary schools as one of Prague's priorities, which is why we're planning to expand from the original 14 core classrooms in Šeberov to a possible 27 in the future," said the councilor responsible for education in the metropolis.
The new primary school is being constructed between Šeberov and Hrnčíři according to a project by the company ADR. In addition to core classrooms, the building will include specialized classrooms, facilities for teachers, a school kitchen with a dining hall, and a gym. The greenery in the area will be irrigated with rainwater from a retention tank. According to city representatives, the heating system for the building is currently being addressed. In 2019, the designers proposed heating using a gas boiler. Due to the current energy crisis, the possibility of replacing it with heat pumps is being considered.
The project for the construction of the primary school was prepared by the Šeberov municipal office, and the construction is financed by the magistrate. The city will own the school building. The construction is expected to last 28 months, with the start of construction work scheduled for the end of the year according to the timeline.
The shortage of places in schools is a problem in the metropolis. New schools are planned to be built, for example, in Březiněves, Kolovraty, Dolní Počernice, or in Prague 12. Prague 9 is constructing a school for about 700 students. The municipality is also addressing the insufficient capacity of educational buildings through extensions of existing structures or by building modular objects and wooden structures.
Prague plans to invest 686 million CZK in education this year for extensions and repairs to educational facilities, with an additional 120 million allocated for the construction of the Šeberov primary school. In total, Prague is managing revenues and expenditures of 92.6 billion CZK. Approximately 19.68 billion is to be invested. The budget for this year was approved by the councilors in December 2021.
The municipal district of Prague-Šeberov is located on the southeastern edge of Prague and includes the neighboring Hrnčíře. According to data from the Czech Statistical Office, as of the end of 2019, 3,309 residents lived there, while around 10,000 residents lived in neighboring Kunratice.
