Prague – The elementary school (ZŠ) in Šeberov, Prague will be built for approximately CZK 477 million by the companies PKS stavby and VISTORIA CZ. The winner of the tender was decided today by the city council of the capital. The school, with 14 regular classrooms, a gymnasium, and an outdoor playground, will be located on municipal land between Šeberov and Hrnčíři.

The consortium of firms PKS stavby and VISTORIA CZ won the tender with a bid of about CZK 394.2 million excluding VAT. Four participants submitted their offers for the competition. According to the decision of the Prague councilors, the winner’s offer was the most economically advantageous. The city hall of the capital announced a public contract for the construction of the school in July 2021, estimating the value of the contract at CZK 349 million excluding VAT.

The new ZŠ building with 14 regular classrooms will be constructed on K Hrnčířům street according to a project from 2019 by the company ADR. The building will also include specialized classrooms, facilities for school teachers, a school kitchen with a dining hall, and a gymnasium. The gym will be designated not only for use by school children but also for the general public. This is due to the fact, according to city hall representatives, that there is a lack of a sports hall in this area of Prague. The new school is expected to be under construction for 28 months. The project was prepared by the Šeberov town hall; however, the city hall will finance the construction. After the completion of the building, the city hall will also own the school building, which is intended to provide the missing places for students in Šeberov and the surrounding areas, including the expanding Kunratice.

The lack of places in schools and kindergartens is an issue in the metropolis, particularly affecting the outlying urban parts of Prague. A new school for CZK 650 million will be built, for example, in Březiněves. Additional schools are also planned to be built in Kolovraty and in Dolní Počernice. The construction of schools is also being addressed by central city districts. For example, Prague 9 is currently building a school U Elektry for about 700 students for approximately CZK 480 million. Prague 12 is planning to construct an elementary school in Komořany with 27 regular classrooms. The costs of constructing the elementary school have previously been estimated by the twelfth city district at CZK 450 million excluding VAT.

The Prague-Šeberov district is located on the southeastern edge of Prague, and it also includes the neighboring Hrnčíře. According to data from the Czech Statistical Office, there were 3,309 residents living there at the end of 2019, while the neighboring Kunratice had about 10,000 residents.
