ROPICE (Frýdek-Místek) - The increasing popularity of golf in northern Moravia has been utilized by the Beskydy Golf Company. They plan to begin construction of ten apartments in October directly on their course in Ropice, near Třinec. In the future, there should be several dozen apartment buildings on the site. "Out of the first ten, we already have nine apartments booked. About a third of the interested parties want to move to the course with their families," said the company's director, Jakub Bernady, to ČTK. The two-storey apartments, sized between 61 and 85 square meters, will cost around two million crowns. "We currently have a building permit for 25 houses, but we expect that there will be even more in the future," Bernady said. The first residents should move in about a year from now. The option for permanent or temporary residence on the golf course could, according to experts, reduce the number of so-called golf widows. "If a husband starts playing golf, he spends most of his free time on the course. The wife either starts playing with him or leaves him. Now people will actually always be at home while playing golf," explained Bernady. The joint stock company Beskydy Golf recently began to expand its course from the current nine to 18 holes. "It's a project worth several tens of millions of crowns; by next summer, we will have a fully functional facility meeting international standards for players," said Bernady. Golf is becoming a popular sport not only among entrepreneurs. People can play at most courses without having to become members of a club and pay several tens of thousands of crowns for it. A one-day game costs from hundreds to 1500 crowns at reputable venues, and renting a club costs several dozen crowns. "People have calculated that one day of golf costs them about the same as a day of skiing at a better slope," added Bernady. In the Moravian-Silesian region, there are four quality golf courses - in addition to Ropice, there is also one in Čeladná in the Frýdek-Místek area, as well as in Kravaře and Šilheřovice in the Opava area. Construction of a course in Ostravice is being prepared in the Frýdek-Místek area, and several other projects are also being discussed. Vladislav Sobol
