PRAGUE - The architectural initiative Letná for ourselves! is organizing a series of public discussions and architectural walks dedicated to the future of this neighborhood. The discussions are held in spaces provided by the National Technical Museum. This academic year, two are planned, on April 5, 2011 and May 31, 2011. The first will deal with the question of public space in Letná, while the second will focus on the topic of transit transport. This is closely related to the issue of the Blanka tunnel and the impacts of this construction on transport throughout the entire capital city. The architectural walks and discussions, to which experts and representatives of the city district and the city hall have been invited, will be supplemented by picnics held at the locations discussed.
The architectural initiative Letná for ourselves! is concerned with meaningful architectural development in Letná. It brings together experts, architects, and art historians who live in Letná or have a connection to it. Recently, many projects have emerged around Letná, but none of them address it comprehensively. Letná is not just a plain, but also a neighborhood. And it takes little for it to be irrevocably and negatively transformed. If we do not start addressing it now, it may easily happen that in ten years there will be nothing left to address, explains architectural historian Richard Biegel the reasons that led to the establishment of the association. The initiative aims to identify the problems that Letná faces and open the way to their solutions through public discussions. The discussions will cover a total of ten topics that define the character of Letná - Public Space, Will transit transport disappear from Letná after the completion of the Blanka tunnel, Old Holešovice, The area of Prague - Bubny station, Letná plain and Letná gardens, Railways in Stromovka, Exhibition grounds, Vltavská, Open spaces or building plots, Architectural monuments and their future. The initiative aims to uncover the hidden aspects of Letná - thus, architectural walks exploring the past of Letná and a series of Sunday picnics held in unusual places are also prepared for visitors. If you are interested in architecture and adventurous spirit, do not hesitate to participate!
