Prague – A new school pavilion on Na Kocínce Street in Prague 6 is set to begin construction this summer holiday, with completion expected in 2026. Students could thus sit at their desks in the school year 2026/2027. The estimated financial costs are 198 million crowns excluding VAT. This was stated in response to a query from ČTK by the spokesperson for the sixth municipal district, Marek Zeman.
The school on Na Kocínce will have eight core classes of 30 pupils each, a school club, and a lunch service. The facility will be under the adjacent Bílá Elementary School, which is established by the sixth Prague municipal district. The pavilion will also have a dining hall, but meals will be prepared in the kitchen at Bílá Elementary School.
Workers will also renovate the area, including fencing and adjacent pathways. "The modification of Na Kocínce Street is designed to enhance the safety of children; the raised threshold will enable the transport of food between the school buildings. Changes will also affect the adjacent Kadeřávkovská Street, including its intersection with Na Kotlářce, where the modification of the existing panel road will create a new entrance to the nearby park," stated Deputy Mayor Mariana Čapková (Praha 6 Sobě).
According to Čapková, the school dining hall will also serve as a multi-purpose hall for school academies or for events in Prague 6 and local residents. A glass opening wall will connect the dining hall with the outdoor amphitheater and the adjacent garden, which will also feature play elements, herb beds, and fruit trees. The garden will include an outdoor gazebo that will allow for the teaching of one class. The school grounds will also be able to host day camps.
The Elementary School on Na Kocínce has been designed to have low energy consumption. The building will be heated by heat pumps and will have a green roof. Rainwater will be used for watering the garden on the school grounds, and so-called greywater, which is wastewater that drains from sinks, bathtubs, showers, and dishwashers, will be used for flushing toilets.
The pavilion will be built on municipal land according to the design by Jaromír Kosnar and Radovan Kupka from the architectural studio AND.
