Martin Hrdina

Martin Hrdina is a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture in Liberec and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, specializing in architectural design. In his short professional career, he worked and lived in the Netherlands, yet returned to Brno to find meaning in connecting graphics and architecture. This connection is quite unusual, as graphic designers often engage with space only at the end of a project, when the interior needs to be completed, walls filled with content, visitors oriented in the space, and a visual style for the entire object created. The combination of architect and graphic designer in one person allows for the introduction of visual elements from the very beginning, tailoring the atmosphere of the interior to the chosen theme, even through the dimensions of the spaces themselves. Martin Hrdina specializes in cafes that are playful, pleasant, and full of intricate details. Brno, a city with an enormous concentration of humanistically educated or already educated residents, has an unusually high density of cafes in the Czech Republic, which naturally function as places for meeting, working, or intellectual and cultural activities. The tradition of cafes in Brno has been solid and unshakeable since the days of the First Republic, and it could be said that Brno is a small Vienna. Perhaps this is why new and interesting cafes continue to emerge in Brno.
