The cycle of lectures and follow-up discussions on contemporary architecture continues with the second installment on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at 6:30 PM in the café of the creative zone DEPO2015 in Plzeň. The invitation from the organizers of the association Pěstuj prostor has been accepted by Ondřej Chybík as the "junior" and "matador" Jaroslav Zima.
The role of the junior will be taken on during the evening by thirty-year-old architect Ondřej Chybík, who, after studying in Brno, Graz, and Zurich and working in Vienna, co-founded the studio Chybik+Kristof Architects & Urban Designers in 2010 with Michal Krištof. Their office has celebrated victories in the competition for the revitalization design of Prague's Waltrovka neighborhood and in the competition for the Czech pavilion for Expo 2015 in Milan. Today, the studio has offices in Prague, Brno, and Milan and its founders are considering expansion to the Asian continent. In addition to current projects in several Czech cities, they are opening up opportunities to design buildings in Dubai and new neighborhoods or entire cities in Milan, China, Oman, or Chile.
Following Ondřej Chybík will be the experienced matador of the Czech architectural scene, Jaroslav Zima, co-founder and partner of the architectural studio D3A. The urban-architectural studies presented on the conversion of local industrial complexes – the site of the former Světovar brewery and the area around Cukrovarská street, where DEPO2015 is now located – will surely resonate with the Plzeň audience. Jaroslav Zima will explain the principle of creating a contemporary urban environment, used in both complexes, using the example of the realized part of Prague's Smíchov. As an example of the reconstruction of an industrial building, he will present the transformation of one of the Holesovice factory buildings into a center for modern design.
