The Faculty of Architecture will participate in the project by Kateřina Šedá: Whole Smell - National Collection of Bad Habits as part of the anniversary of 200 years since the birth of the founder of genetics Gregor Johann Mendel. This unique project, which maps Czech bad habits, will focus on architects. Come to the lecture and discussion directly with the holder of the Architect of the Year 2017 award, Kateřina Šedá, on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 16:30 in auditorium A310 (Faculty of Architecture VUT, Poříčí 273/5, Brno). The event is held in cooperation with the student association SOFA operating at the Faculty of Architecture VUT.
“Bad habits are something that accompanies each of us throughout life. They distinguish us from others, define and characterize our personality, and paradoxically connect us as well. Society is thus composed not only of families linked by genetic roots, but also of other families, so-called distant relatives. We often refer to individuals who boast some similar bad habit as ourselves,” describes Kateřina on the project's website.
Kateřina Šedá (*1977 Brno) is a Czech artist whose work is closely related to social architecture. In her work, she focuses on socially conceived actions, often employing dozens or hundreds of individuals who have nothing to do with art. These actions mostly take place directly in villages or in the streets of cities. Experiments with interpersonal relationships aim to bring the participants out of ingrained stereotypes or social isolation. Through their own (provoked) activity and a new use of everyday means, she seeks to awaken a lasting change in their behavior.
